![]() ![]() However, aluminum isn’t quite as durable as steel. ![]() The durability is fine for the vast majority of rifles. And if you’re doing a lightweight build, you’ll have a lot of aluminum parts, anyway. However, that means they’re made of 7075-T6 aluminum. These pins weigh just 0.2 ounces for both pins. ![]() Obviously, the big deal with these pins is that they’re super lightweight. These pins are exceptionally affordable, just like the other Strike Industries parts. Strike Industries takes another win with the Strike Industries Ultra Light Pivot/Takedown Pins. So you get the matching pivot pin for about the price of a single takedown pin. So you can add some bling to your rifle, if you want.Īnd, as you may have noticed already, this Strike Industries accessory is a pin set. They also come in 3 different finishes: black, chrome, and gold. It doesn’t snag on things or add any weird bulk to your rifle. You won’t even notice you’re running extended pins until you need to take your rifle apart. However, the extended head is streamlined. And the thing I like most about them is that the extended head gives you enough surface to grip and pull the pins out for quick, easy disassembly. We’ve thrown these takedown pins in a few rifles down at the range. So they’re as durable as they need to be. So it makes sense that the Strike Industries Extended Pivot/Takedown Pins give you the best deal on an extended takedown pin.Įven though they’re remarkably affordable, these takedown pins are machined from steel. Strike Industries makes some of the most affordable parts on the market right now. But the reality is that the majority of shooters just need a quality takedown pin that will hold their rifle together for as long as they own it. ![]() Overall, there’s nothing crazy fancy about this takedown pin. But it looks good, for those who want something a bit more visually appealing than a plain takedown pin. Lastly, it’s got the Noveske cross machined into the head. It will fit any mil-spec lower receiver without any fit issues. So it’s pretty much guaranteed that this takedown pin will be machined to spec. This takedown pin won’t be a liability or any sort of single point of failure.Īdditionally, Noveske is very stringent about their quality control. So it’s far stronger than your upper or lower receiver. And it’s got a bit of cool factor.įirst, this pin is made of 4140 hardened steel. But the Noveske Takedown Pin is very reasonably priced for what you get. You are now done field stripping the upper receiver.Ordinarily, nothing Noveske makes falls into the affordable category. To remove it, pull it out, it may be hard to pull out, if not lubed correctly or due to carbon build up. The bolt is the part that closes off the front of the BCG. To remove it, push the bolt in towards the rear of the BCG, then rotate the cam pin so that the straight edges of the pin are parallel with the bolt carrier, then pull it out, it may take some rotating and wiggling. The cam pin is the large pin that is in a slot that is near the front(closed end of the BCG) of the BCG. Once the firing pin is removed, you can now remove the cam pin. If you are unable the pull the pin out with your finger nail, you can use an object with a small tip to pull it out, such as a small hex key.Īfter removing the retaining pin, just tip the BCG backwards and the firing pin should slide out, but in some cases, there may be too much carbon build up on the firing pin and it may not slide out, in which case you can pull it out with your finger or pry it out with the same object you used to pull out the retaining pin. The retaining pin is located near the rear(the open end of the BCG) of the BCG inside of a little indent in the bolt carrier. The retaining pin is the pin that has a little loop in it that you can grab with your fingernail, it keeps the firing pin from falling out. Now for the most complex part of field stripping an AR-15, disassembling the bolt carrier group(BCG). ![]()
