![]() ![]() The point is, I don’t know if I want art to become the same type of burden that leather working has. But how? Although I have sold leather goods for the last 8 years to all kinds of people all over the world, art feels different. Do I begin treating this part of my life as I have my leather work and try to sell it to make money? Well, with printmaking, yes, that is more or less the point of editioning art in the first place. I have focussed in the past mainly on drawing (pen and ink) and printmaking (linocut, woodcut and etching), but, after a long and very fruitful semester of printmaking this last semester at school, I realized that I needed to put all of this work I was doing into perspective. I have been obsessed with drawing and have used it both expressively and therapeutically throughout my many tribulations. This same kind of idea (of running to catch up with the 21st century) hit me on the art side of things recently. After all, it was never my dream to be a leather worker, it just worked out that way, which has been great, but I really want to move on and explore other materials and technologies that are out there. Overall though, the instability of self employment (creative businesses even more so), I decided to go back to school to find a way to take my skills in a new direction. For the last eight years, I have been running my little leather working business (), which has had its share of ups and downs, but overall has been a good thing. I am super excited to start this next chapter in my life, although it is fraught with many stressful points along the way. ![]() I recently graduated from community college (Cuesta in San Luis Obispo) and I am set to start at San Francisco State in the fall for a bachelors in Industrial Design. There has been no where to share this kind of thing before, but I think I will try to post at least once a week or so with new drawings I have been working on in real life (pen and pencil), and digitally, which is something relatively new to me, but is a new obsession. I am an avid creator, often I am working on several art pieces at once, and I draw every day. All of these things can end up falling into the same kind of catch-all group entitled “creativity,” so I think this is the right place to discuss things that are happening in my life, as well as new art work I am working on. So the thing that I realized recently is that I need to start blogging about my art, my life, and my work. ![]()
